Fond Returns: A Song of War by Charl Landsberg

Charl Landsberg | April 6th, 2018 | poetry | No Comments

Poem

A cup of tea for Andy who got caught out in the storm.
A cup of tea for Lionel with his arms so big and warm.
A cup of tea for Lionel with his sword strapped to his side.
A cup of tea for Andy with his chest so bold and wide.
A cup of tea for Lionel who had always wanted more.
A cup of tea for Lionel who’d been drafted into war.
A cup of tea for Andy getting worried every day.
A cup of tea for Lionel who now has to go away.
A cup of tea for Andy in the hours that he yearns.
A cup of tea for Andy as he waits for fond returns.
A cup of tea for Andy in the nighttime as he cries.
A cup of tea for Lionel in the ditch in which he dies.
A cup of tea of Lionel who returned home anyway.
A cup of tea for Andy and a ghost who came to stay.
A cup of tea for Andy with the leaves dried in a heart.
A cup of tea for lovers who will never be apart.
