My last moments by Adri Roothman Buys

Poem

As I live through these last moments of mine
I feel almost nothing –
Barely aware of the world around me
I feel my chest is tight
Everything else just feels empty

Just a far distant pain in my heart
Feeling deserted by you
but soon that won’t matter anymore
because I’ll be gone
someplace where
you won’t be able
to hurt me anymore

Anytime now, my eyes will close
and my heart will stop
You will forever
be gone from my eyesight

I can’t wait –
This is my last moment of pain
any time now, I will be free
my eyes closed as I go in peace
blissfully unaware
of your running feet
