Conversations with The Human presented and performed by Thando Fuze is set to showcase on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June 2018 at Durban Art Gallery and Pietermaritzburg on 1 July 2018. The one-woman-show and book launch is a reflection of Fuze’s journey through the years as a spoken word artist. The project is a collection of Fuze’s various creative works she has worked on for the past 10 years.

Most of the work I’ll be performing is work that has saved me and got me through some really tough times. I want people to understand and feel that this more than just words, that a lot of emotions are invested into it. Writers and poets, we too are human and this is how we get through all that we go through,” says Fuze.

Based in Durban, Fuze has been nominated twice for Best Female Performing Poet at the Original Material Awards, performed at the 19th Poetry Africa International Festival alongside the likes of Lebo Mashile, Mbali Vilakazi and Lesego Rampolokeng. She was one of 24 poets whose work was published in the anthology entitled Home is where the Mic is featuring young contemporary poets from across the globe. Other stages include that of Poet in A Suit, Sundowners, Cup O’ Thought and Poetry in Motion. “Most of my work is relatable; I talk about family, about love, childhood and sometimes politics and these are all things that as humans we have in common. I want people to enjoy the performance, to walk out with a different and a more positive perception of what poetry and what it means to us, now,” she says. “The book is a way of preserving some of the work that I’ve done over the years. For readers to be able to go back to it whenever they need to, to take from it what they need to help them through or just for enjoyment. Moreover, it is to encourage the culture of reading,” she adds”. Conversations with The Human will feature other forms of art – contemporary dance, live music and multimedia visuals.

For the Durban leg there will be a book launch on 29 June at 18:00. Entrance is free and the book costs R100. An hour-long show will happen on 30 June at 13:00, tickets are available at R120 each from Thando Fuze (none will be sold at the door).
