Word N Sound announces the Spoken Freedom Festival

After three years, of running a monthly poetry event with a competitive slam edge, Word N Sound upped the ante this year by adding free weekly open mic sessions. Yesterday, they announced the Spoken Freedom Festival which will be an annual event with 14 poets performing for four nights.

Billed as an “exciting and energetic showcase of the best youth Spoken Word voices in South Africa”, the festival will begin on the 3rd of July and run until 6th July. The festival of words, music and visuals will take poetry lovers through the journey of youth and “the challenges and victories of living in a free South Africa”.

Poets on the showcase include Napo Masheane, Masai Dabula, Modise Sekgothe, Vuyelwa Maluleka, Quaz Roodt. More poets will be announced soon: Tereska Muishond, Afurakan, Mutle Mothibe, Makhafula Vilakazi, Mandi Poefficient Vundla, Vangi Gantsho, Natalia Molebatsi and Conelius Jones.
