The final week of November 2013 marks a highlight of the South African Poetry calendar, as the 3rd Annual Word N Sound International Youth Poetry + Live Music Festival gets underway.

For the first time, the Festival will feature a Cape Town leg brought to you by British Council Connect ZA.

The night will feature Cape Town’s own Khadija Heeger, Lwanda Sindaphi and Pieter Odendaal – who will share work in English, Xhosa and Afrikaans respectively – alongside Roundhouse Poets from the UK, Catherine Labiran and Harry Baker. Word N Sound co-founder, Afurakan Mohare, and Andrew Manyika will join them on stage.

The event aims to be a showcase the diverse poetic voices presently working in Cape Town, and a celebration of mother tongue writing.

The Word N Sound Festival continues in Johannesburg until 30 November.
