A Poem A Day prompt: blackout poetry

Poetry Potion | March 10th, 2014 | a poem a day challenge | No Comments

It is library week in South Africa so this week’s writing prompt involves something that is part visual poem, part found poetry. This is called blackout poetry.

Find a book, a newspaper, a magazine. and using a marker, black out (cross out) lines and leave only the words that make up your poem.

here’s an example:

There are more creative examples online, just search “blackout poetry”.

When you’re done, take a photo and tag @poetrypotion on Twitter or post it on our facebook page wall. Poetry Lovers will vote for the best poem for a prize to be announced at the end of the week.

Now don’t go and do this on library books. Many more generations must still have access to those books.
