this week’s writing prompt:

Day of the Vow or Day of Reconciliation?

Until 1994, the 16th of December was commemorated as The Day of the Vow (the Day of the Covenant or Dingaan’s Day)[1]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Vow as a religious public holiday that traces its origins back to the Battle of Blood River[2]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blood_River. The day was renamed Day of Reconciliation because of it’s significance to both the Afrikaaner and the zulu people, it was intended to foster reconciliation and national unity[3]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_Reconciliation.
