Poet Bio

I stand atop a bank tower,
surveying vast vistas,
ridgelines of strip malls,
copses of office mid-rises,
clusters of single-family homes,
raging rivers of cars.

I stand atop a bank tower
in a rappelling harness,
loaded with slings, carabiners,
loops, coils and lanyards,
ready to make a leap of faith
off the roof’s daunting ledge.

I stand atop a bank tower,
recalling the colleague who bade me
to be careful jumping.
“It’s not jumping,” I quickly corrected,
just the jump it takes to walk horizontally,
backward, away from the glaring sun.
