Await the Sentence by Stephen Kingsnorth

Poem

The neigh comes from the horse’s mouth –
not logic why it can’t be done –
though same, the politicians’ tools,
vague promise – when research complete.

Enquiries – best hold-up employed –
investigations incomplete
in hope there will be no result –
agendas move on in a week.

Delay until lie outruns truth,
prevaricate to slow the case,
with loss of witness’ evidence,
statute of limitations breached.

Our justice oft karma controlled;
another life away maybe.
But that is why eternity
provides full sentence, not mere phrase.

See, falling scales about our eyes,
as folded sheets, our deathbed wrap,
means blindfold of true justice tied,
and we are justified at last.
