Awash by Stephen Kingsnorth

Poem

Pollution is a dirty word –
agreement right around the world,
though not in common meaning used
in commerce and environment.

The business, economic wealth
holds health beneath financial stealth;
their final will and testament
to future heirs, both scar and scare.

Green guardians, globe stewardship,
aware how vital water is,
campaign to stream our current thoughts
towards the filth that overflows
from sky to reign where rivers throw
their dirt throughout our oceans, seas.

Hold this for me, my family,
the tribes of earth which follow me
good grace, responsibility,
a planet of integrity.
The place we stand is holy ground –
with holy water sprinkled too.

  1. One of the most powerful poems that I have ever had the privilege of reading. Thank you Stephen. This wonderful God given planet will be destroyed if we do not right some of the wrongs that are taking place at present.
