I used to swim among the stars
Breathing rainbow and sunshine
Dreaming of magic
And singing nature’s hymns of peace and luminescent promise
I drowned between the careless sounds of a grandmother’s whisper
Words that taught me to hide a fire
Echoes of no and not good enough
Locked in a cage of unseen tears
And treading barefoot on floors of broken dreams
Plagued by maybes and what ifs
Now I walk between tall shadows
Flanked by ghosts of what could have been
The cold reality of a raging spark snuffed out too soon
Just an amateur poet trying to hone a craft.
