Bring Us Good News by Chestlyn Draghoender

Poem

We are shadows
in an empty space,
with a darkness that seems to grow
by the day.
It’s been like this for a while,
but no-one seemed to notice.
We are broken souls.
Steeped in our own grief
and solitude,
yearning for relief.
It’s been like this for some time,
but no one seemed to care.
Bring us good news,
like pure gospel.
That will eliminate fear from our hearts
and worries from our minds.
So we can hope and smile.
Enjoy the little things.
Make a path for us
in the crowds.
So we can move freely
towards our dreams.
Give us reason to believe
in their beauty.
Bring us good news
that will make us choose carefully
what we do.
And not take things for granted.
Bring us good news, every day,
about our futures.
So we can be in good spirits,
no matter what comes our way.
