Collective and Individuality by Thompson Emate

Poem

Sand between toes,
Children have no foes.
They bask in the sunshine;
All is beautiful and fine.

Lost in the moment,
They crave more;
Joy is abundant in the store.
Collective joy strings their hearts.

Nightfall ends the fun;
They’re unhappy with the retreating sun.
They see daylight as a key to an unfettered tomorrow,
And twilight as a journey into gloom and sorrow.
If only they knew that sorrow is the weight
Of the complexities and perplexities of life for the troubled.

Soon they will become adults like me,
And likely turn into a turbulent sea.
They search for what’s hidden in the night,
Understanding that the depth of who we are
It is not only found in the light.

Children come together as friends;
They see colours that blend.
As time opens more doors for them to walk through,
The disparate disparities become clear and true.
