Poem

The colours of my childhood,
The memories of my younger days,
The aches and joys of my early years,
A pebbled and undulating road.

The colours of my childhood,
The different shades of my youth,
The darkness brought by the Iroko tree that fell,
The hurt of leaving my home,
The pain of separation caused by being misunderstood and unloved.

The memories of my younger days,
A tinge of nostalgia,
The melancholy of lack,
The sadness of scarcity,
My father’s diligent hands couldn’t provide enough.

The aches and joys of my early years,
The rise and fall of finding my path,
The journey of learning to love myself,
The sojourn to the light of existence,
The turbulence of my academic journey.

I travel along a pebbled and undulating road,
I confront the unknown and the unseen.
Though redemption seems miles away,
I find solace in the words and songs of my mother.
