Dry January by Joseph S. Pete

Poet Bio

Dry January, the long detox,
the month-long respite for the liver,
a ritualistic fast for clean living.

Dry January, all a farce.
Just theater, charade, a show,
yet another empty gesture.

You only return to crushing
high-ABV India Pale Ales
for the next 11 months

without missing a beat,
without any change or growth,
with a few crowing posts and no real progress.

Poet Bio

Joseph S. Pete is the author of the book “Lost Hammond, Indiana,” which is coming out soon.
