Dull Mornings, villanelle by Francis Conlon

Poem

Dull mornings can have a secret meaning,
A silver lining to the cloud,
A hidden drift in fate’s leaning.

See the pattern from puffs’ convening,
The design is silent, not out loud,
Dull mornings can have a secret meaning.

Moisture condenses, awaiting the gleaning,
High altitude winds have plowed,
A hidden drift in fate’s leaning.

Prognosticate the future of vapors convening,
A destiny appearing as endowed.
Dull mornings can have a secret meaning.

I’ll strike a path without careening,
A guiding star with beam unbowed.
A hidden drift in fate’s leaning.

The spirit does its own weaning,
I travel solo from the crowd.
Dull mornings can have a secret meaning,
A hidden drift in fate’s leaning.
