The boy in the other street
My playmate with whom I built sandcastles
Once said,
“Education is a scam”
But when his uncle sent a letter to his mother
They summoned his learned neighbour to read it
And when he saw a bank manager
He said,
He would be like him when grew up
and one day, he would rule our country
When I told him he had a pipedream
He said there was a country
A country where some of the leaders are “certificateless”
Our elders say
Twenty children
will not be playmates for twenty years
Life separated us
And each followed his dreams
Twenty years later,
We met again
And my friend,
A dropout has become ‘a big man honourable’
Now, isn’t an education a scam
Or is education the best legacy?
