Emotional Torture by Theodora Joanne Polackaczynski

Poem

After the holidays,
you get back home and everyone’s silent:
the socializing stops,
and the sound of silence is the spider’s silence
when it’s crafting its web.
The spider’s web is to catch flies,
but the relatives’ web is to catch you straight away,
the next time,
when they happen to ring you
and ask you to join
the upcoming holiday fest.

The silence is emotional torture, really.
