Flame by Caterina Pollio

Poem

Life is unpredictable
In good and evil.

You can lose your health,
You can lose your wealth.
You can go through
Friendship breakup
Couples split up.

Relationships are dynamic:
some of them
are like ocean waves.
It’s rare
If they last forever.

You can lose your garment
You can lose your movement.
You can lose your reputation
You can lose your destination.

You can experience
grief
and see how human existence
is brief and fleeting like a leaf.

You can experience the pangs
of one-sided friendship
and unreciprocated love.

Despite that,
you can always be free
in your head.
You can always travel
in your fantasy.
Even if you can’t afford
because you’re crazy busy
with work and family
Let your mind wander
in the unknown magical land
of your imagination.
And feel the glee.

Let yourself pour your heart
into your passion
Express your creativity.
Devote your time and energy
to your activity.
You will benefit
a renewed connectivity
with your identity.
Your passion will brighten up
your darkness.
The bitterness of loneliness
will disappear.
All of society will benefit
because your work
will touch lives
even after your death.

So until you last breath
follow that burning flame
in your heart.
It will never destroy you.
In fact, it will keep you alive.
Never let the criticism
or pessimism
neither fade your flame
nor blow it off.

Just like the wind of mountain
can blow out a candle
but they can feed a fire,
so let the judgement
coming from the contempt
for your attempt
fuel your strong flame.

Progress after progress,
you will enjoy their shame
on their face
after your success.
