Green Tide by A.D. Labuschagne

Poem

I remember the first time
I went swimming
Awkwardly splashing
In the waves
Going under
Getting lost in the green tide

Soft was the breeze that
Breathed life into me…

I found myself drowning
In the Summer of your embrace
Warmth in the cold crisp darkness.

Your arms wrapped around me
The softness of your lips brushing
Against mine
Your breath and my own intertwined…

And the words in the back of my head,
‘Don’t drink that…
this ocean is too vast too swallow…’

Yet, I drank deeply from the cup
Of love
Drank the ocean
Drank it up…

Drowning in the green
Tide,
The ebb and flow
Of your eyes

And now, just like salt water
Leaves you thirsty
And needing more
My thirst will not abate
Nothing can sate
This need I have for you.
