Halfway House by Lee Evans

Poem

Wherever I go I’m always halfway there.
Whatever I do is always halfway done.

That’s why I’m impeding your progress.
I’m not a contender. I’m not in the race.

Whenever there’s an issue I’m always in the middle–
which infuriates everyone concerned.

But where are my manners?
Let me introduce you to my better halves.

Look over there and you’ll see Hells Canyon.
Look over there and you’ll see Heaven’s Gate.

Right between the mountains and the sky,
I live in a hut with a panoramic view.

You can spot me when you look down or up,
straight ahead, askance, or simply askew.

Halfway is my home. I’m always going there.
Welcome to Halfway. It’s where you’ve been all along.
