Hey Dad by Ali Ashhar

Poem

A pensive son muses
life as the subsidy of time
the horizon witness
father’s codgerhood fading
against the son’s youth;
the walls of the room have held
the fondest memories in its shade,
the adjacent closet is a mini showroom
of attire clothed with joys and tears
amidst the sunshine and rain
meanwhile, father’s heartbeat
starts falling short of time
the son rushes him
to the nearby medical centre.
Somewhere, in between the bed and ventilator
transitions a bond from the pages of history
unto the chapters of eternity
the doc announces a new story—
the son looks at the horizon above
and carries forward the lamp of legacy
in the dark ahead.
