I Must Be Fed by Jacqueline Rudy

Poem

All I need
I say, all I need is
A simple spark to light
Fire that
Churns and burns
Screams
“FULL STEAM AHEAD”
Beneath earthen soil,
Extract velvety oil
I just need more, more…
Of your electric and water –
To fill the store!
I MUST BE FED

Who makes the fuzzy cute fleeces?
Who makes the molded plastic pieces?
Whose arms make the money that make the man?
Hmm? Hmmm?

Send your baby to the center.
Tell them “ become a productive member.”
Sign away their sunshine,
blue sky,
viridian field playtime.
Let them sit inside
(it’s warm and cozy).
“Here, eat this cherry, whipped cream, and blueberry
pie.”
