I wish I’d said by Nkululeko Zondi

Poem

i wish i’d said the things
i felt at the time of our
parting

You said i should learn
to express my feelings
but you never taught me
how

You also did not know
how to express yours
at least to me unless
it was rage

i wish i’d said that i
knew we were parting
for good despite your
stoicism

You said i should learn
to express myself but
you also said i should
know my place

My place is that which
i find myself in now

My place is that of
wishful thinking
