In the Margin by Stephanie Hurley

Poem

Wish you were here…

There is so much to say,
but not everything can fit on a 4×6 card.
Space and time are not on my side.

I am finally seeing the places we always talked about —
the view looks just like the picture on the front.
It’s quieter here than I imagined,
but it’s peaceful too.

As I write this,
the sun is fading into the horizon
and I am holding your name in the dark.

These lines will blur before they reach you,
(we both know nothing is permanent)
but I hope you can still read what remains.

I meant to tell you…
It’s not the same…
Everything is fine…
There’s only…
Love
