June, and her other friends, like blues by K.I.N.G Cedric

Poem

Welcome, to the home of the black and white
Blackmailed white lies with justified grey areas
An exclusive rainbow nation that exiles
Those who are robbed of the year
And can only be openly gay in June

Stripped of the rights of woman’s month
When they are reduced to “freaks” and “Dykes”
Stripped of the Father’s Day rituals
If there’s no cis-het mother in the room

It’s unnatural if we curve from
The fruit of the womb
It’s blasphemous if we embrace
Our hermaphroditic truths

Trans lives, bought to book
For playing God with their own bodies
Sworn affidavits from Leviticus
Given to liberty to cross examine

The judge? Bribed by his homophobia
Sexuality can only be coloured
By the chessboard of gender roles
Of Kings and queens

Dark knights enforce their laws
On pawns who are crowned
Martyrs for a cause
Of being human in the truest sense

How is it a rainbow nation
If I’m only given red to bleed
If you are only envy green
From the blues of not being
Able to wear yellow because “it’s not manly?”

How is it a rainbow nation
If your purple heart
Throbs of war pride
From doing the ‘’lord’s work”
Of reminding a woman
That she’s a woman not a butch?

How is catcalling and bitch labelling
The secret ingredient to change her mind?
We did not say “by any vulgar means”
This is not justice but prejudice at its most extreme

The colour of today
Fades with liberties we were promised
The colours pistol-whipped on my face
Encourages me to remain in a closet

My name is June, I’m in a fight for my life.
