Lambs to the Slaughter by A.D. Labuschagne

Poem

The gates are trembling,
The masses shout,
The walls are dripping with
Blood and revolt.
Freedom, the cry
T’wards the guillotine
We might be lambs
To the slaughter
But we refuse to be meat

The revolution should be televised
Broadcast across
A million glowing screens
Live social media scenes
It’s time to break away from the herd
Speak up and have your voice heard

Down with the state
Of mind
That keeps us down

The mob is at the gates
Riotous and fed up
The hungry and poor
The unwashed masses
Dirty and tired
Fired up…

Freedom, the cry
T’wards the guillotine
We might be lambs
To the slaughter
But we refuse to be meat
I’d rather die standing
Than forced down to my knees…
