Lovebirds’ ballad by Rudwaan Hartlief

Poem

When I first saw you
I felt something, something familiar
Something real
Then we ate our first meal together
And it became our last
Because you got in the car
Rode down the road
And all I heard was a blast
I ran as fast as I could
But it took long, like it was far
On the scene I came
And all I saw was blood
That’s when it first struck…
Heartbreak
My first love was unalived
I hate the universe
Wish it would reverse
Back to the time you said, “Goodbye”
So I could stop you from getting into that car
But I know you’d only say home is far
Because you couldn’t see that home was not far
It was there with you
I long for you…my love
