Poem

mhangele

beneath the fading blue
the cloth recalls strikes every which way white

atop the blue
block print guinea fowl walking together for
eons

beneath the fowl
grassy land
thorny veld
trace-less soils
human fractioned humus

what the print maker’s daughter recalls

trekking brief moments of flight

searching for trees not forests

dust baths

concealed nests padded soft green black white

androgynous flirting
female egg sharing
male fasting
collective keet raising

tick scarfing that helps prevent

pandemics
