Maybe in Another Life by Ma. Elenette Yu Sotes

Poem

Maybe in another life,
our souls will meet again.
And we won’t be casting love,
and rewinding pain.
Maybe there can be you—
to hold me tight, dance with me.
And me— waiting for you
to lift me off of my feet.

Maybe there’s none to shake you—
each time your fingers locked,
every time you carry me on your back.
Maybe in another life,
You’ll love me more than me.
And we won’t be one feet apart
And you’ll hold me until
the hour that you said you will.

Maybe in another time,
you’d ask me if we’ve met before.
But I won’t ever dare say a word,
Even the slightest, faintest clue,
That there’s an old dogged you
who freed my hands from you.

Maybe in another life,
We’ll keep dreaming our lives
That there’s new you and me—
Forever, just like in fantasy.
Yet this I know, it’s both of us—
for a lifetime in our next reality.

Maybe in time,
Our love will live again.
And I would just know
When you never let go.
