ODYSSEY (PETRARCHAN SONNET) by Mpho Molekoa

Poem

We mould blankets of clouds to suit time’s luminous embrace
The sun dreams, the moon shimmers – all humans hunger for one thing
Albeit in the gentle streams of life all’s fleeting.
Complete perplexity – the laughter of suffering in this race
Rooted in mountains we gaze at with grace,
Perhaps it is not what eludes us that is frightening
But dreams of dust returning to their most conscious existing
Man stripped of vanity, rage…

Re-born in a state of absolute eternal glory
Where death no longer exists – man’s solace,
We exist, we exist not, we exist forever – time’s luminous embrace.
We hunger for life, resplendent in power; holy
A release of mortal pain…
To be like God is the gold we crave.
