Poem

“I guess,” I’d say, in my own little way.
And you’d look at me all concerned.

As if I hadn’t known you.
As if, by now, I hadn’t learned.

“I don’t believe you,” you’d say.
And I’d lie, “No really, I’m okay.”

“Mmhmm,” comes your reply.
So we’re both in on the lie.

Charl Landsberg is a South African poet, artist, and musician from Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Their work is often focussed on issues of social justice including intersectional feminism, queer activism, anti-racism, etc. Their work often makes use of fantasy and science fiction tropes.
