I wake up glowing
the sun in my chest,
everything makes sense
for a heartbeat.
Then suddenly
the sky caves in.
I dont know why.
It just does.
I am laughter mid-tear,
a high that forgets
how to stay.
My joy burns bright
then disappears
like it was never real.
I notice it
the shift,
the swing,
the way my mind
changes colours too fast
to name them.
But before I can ask
what’s wrong,
it’s gone.
The ache,
the light
all of it
vanished.
And I’m left standing
in between
half sun,
half shadow,
wholly me.
Greano Baron writes poetry that navigates desire, identity and the spaces between what is and what could be. Based in South Africa, they are drawn to themes of memory, longing and the quiet, often unspoken, struggles of the human heart.
