Poem for Bra Willie by Frank Meintjies

Poem

The gnarled tree
in the middle, holds up the park
Other spots and other trees
green this world
But this tree, its angle and visage, catches the sun’s sparks
in singular ways

At dusk, the shadows muster
& all trees lean inwards
shrink a tiny bit; they glisten silvery
in the day’s cool breath

Lean towards the morning
that follows the quiet night
