Renowned praise poet Jessica Mbangeni died in August of 2024. Jessica was a celebrated South African praise poet, cultural advocate, actress, entrepreneur, and singer. She graced world stages with Praise Poetry performances at iconic events like the 46664 concert in Cape Town and the inauguration of President Thabo Mbeki.
Jessica Mbangeni came to prominence in 2002 when she joined the renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, touring extensively across the globe, including Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, and North America. Mbangeni started her solo poetry career two years later in 2005. In 2006, she founded KwaNtu Entertainment and Designs, a platform dedicated to elevating African talent by connecting cultural and entertainment networks.
Towards the end of August 2014, Mbangeni announced the release date of her live album IGoli which was performed live at Lyric Theatre. The album was released on 26 September 2014. Her studio album Busiswe Tribute to African Heroines was released in 2015.
Jessica’s versatility extended to acting, with roles in Dube on 2 and eKasi: Our Stories. Her musical accolades include multiple South African Music Awards and a SATMA for her contributions to traditional music. Her hit collaboration with Vusi Nova on As’phelelanga remains a defining moment of her career.
