POET PROFILE: Lethu Nkwanyana

Lethu Nkwanyana is a multi-award-winning poet, playwright, and theatre practitioner. As the 2023 Poetry Africa Slam Champion, he represented South Africa at the Poetry World Slam Championship in Togo 2024, earning a place among the top five poets in Africa. With a background in Professional Acting for Camera, Lethu masterfully blends poetry, theatre, and spirituality in his performances. His work has been staged across South Africa and Eswatini, and he has also been featured in a musical production in the United States.

Beyond performance, he is a literary mentor and educator, leading mentorship programmes in the United States and facilitating workshops with the National Library. His notable works include The Dreaming Mirror, After Blinking, and Let the Poet Speak. He has also collaborated with the Philharmonic Orchestra, integrating poetry into live musical performances.

As a published author, his poetry has appeared in multiple anthologies, including the prestigious Sol Plaatje European Union Award Poetry Anthology (2022). His work continues to push boundaries, expanding his artistic reach on a global scale.
