Yamoria is a Johannesburg based collaborative-spoken-word duo birthed by two South African poets, writers, presenters, and podcast hosts- Mfumo who is a performer that is adamant about redesigning the sculpture of black women in society and her sister Fumane who draws her inspiration from the strength that lies within the human form
The duo host of their own podcast titled “The Queens Fortress” that debuted in 2019. The podcast is centered on African Poetry, Music and Literature.
The writers are well seasoned and published their first book “Colour Me Melanin” in 2019. The book is colouring and poetry book that celebrates 27 different African Cultures and celebrates Black Girl Magic and the acknowledgment and appreciation of Black Women. The spoken word couple has also been published in some of Africa’s most esteemed anthologies including the renowned Sol Plaatje Anthology, The Mamba Anthology and The Looking Glass Anthology.
As performing artists, the duo is well established in the poetry scene in and around Johannesburg. Yamoria are trained performing artists and Current State of Poetry Alumni, Mzanzi Poetry Academy Alumni and achieved 1st place in the Word n Sound Season 9 Slam. They have been performing since 2017 on stages at the Joburg Theatre, The State Theatre and many more. They have also been invited to share their work on various TV and Radio Stations including SABC1s ‘Daily Thetha’ and SABC1s ‘YO TV’ also being Interviewed on Power FM, KayaFM and on Vision View Sports Radio.
As presenters Yamoria got their first big presenting job in 2018 on an SABC3 TV show Ex-Frontiers Season 2.
