For the past three years, Jacana and the European Union have awarded a poetry prize in honour of Sol Plaatje. The Sol Plaatje European Union Poetry Award is now in it’s fourth year and poets have the opportunity to submit and stand the chance to win a share int he R10000 prize and be featured in the annual anthology.
Last year’s winner was Kobus Moolman for this poem ‘Daily Duty‘. Second place went to Vonani Bila for his entry ‘Memory‘ and third place went to Nedine Moonsamy for her poem ‘me=mycelium=me‘. The poets were awarded at a prize-giving ceremony at the Poetry Africa Festival in Durban, 19 October.

The Poetry Society is calling for new poetic talent amongst 11-17 year olds. Young poets from all over the world may enter. A top 15 is selected, and these poets get the chance to attend a week-long residential courts in Britain and have the poem published in the Foyle Winners Anthology.
