12 Years A Poet presented and performed by Vus’umuzi Phakathi is set to showcase on Saturday 28 October 2017 at the Wits Great Hall, Johannesburg. The one-man-show is a reflection of Phakathi’s journey as a poet through the years as well as a platform to springboard an engaging dialogue around the economic sustainability of the industry.
“My current mission is to build a stable and sustainable South African Poetry Industry. If poetry lovers and supporters can fill up a 1000 seater theatre for a South African poet then this will confirm that we have a paying market for our product. I believe that this show is a step that will contribute to opening a gateway to many sold out poetry productions, platinum-selling poetry albums, and best-selling poetry books” says Phakathi.
Based in Johannesburg, the world-renowned and award-winning poet has performed at international festivals which include Individual World Poetry Slam (Washington DC), Poetry Africa International Festival and Urban Voices International Festival. He is the founder and Executive Director of Current State Presentations, the production house behind the groundbreaking poetry movement, Current State of Poetry. Phakathi is also the curator of the Annual South African National Provincial Poetry Slam and South African National Poetry Slam.
Tickets are available online at webtickets from R100 each.
