Purple Butterfly by K.G. Munro

Poem

Fire blazed into my mind,
Destroying my perception, my reality.

Floods ravaged my eyes,
I thought that I would die.

Until God told me to breathe,
The heat scorched my throat.

I couldn’t speak but when the smoke cleared,
For the first time, I could breathe.

Opening my eyes,
I could see, there was no smoke or horror.

My mind had made me into a prisoner,
God set me free and I came into a garden,
That’s when I saw it.

Seeing a purple butterfly,
I realized that you have to endure suffering,
In order to live a happy life.
