Reminding Myself by Chestlyn Draghoender

Poem

When it seems like
there is no way out.
That my life is too difficult,
I start to scream.
But, I won’t apologize
for this.
I live in constant chaos
and insanity
and turmoil.

So when I feel like
it is too much for me,
I try to make light of it.
But I feel grief
and embarrassment.
Again, I won’t apologize.
Instead, I remind myself
to keep your head up.
And move slowly
towards my dream.
To dance until my heart beats
to the pulsating rhythm
of the universe.

When I think it’s the end
of the road,
I remind myself
over and over
to pray, night and day.
And let the light
guide my way.
To sing, until
I begin to utter
the language of gods.
