Rest in Peace Lesego Motsepe (28 April 1974 – 20 Jan 2014)

I last saw Lesego Motsepe performing poetry and singing at Constitution Hill’s  One Love One Heritage event on Heritage Day, 24 September 2013. And true to form, she was in great spirits, with a great big mile and just genuine enthusiasm not only for her performance but life. Apart from knowing her as an actor, the few times I’d see her as a poet or MC – like Sabata-mpho Mokae’s book launch or the Comrades on the Mic event – she always exuded happiness.

It is really sad to find out that she has today passed on.

Poetry Potion wishes her soul peace and condolences to her family and loved ones.

The arts have lost a soldier, South Africa has lost a bright star but most of all the Motsepes have lost a daughter, sister, aunt and a piece of their heart. Nxese zithandwa, may this pain pass and be overwhelmed by the sweet memories you shared with her.

update: The SABC held a memorial service in Lesego’s honour on today. The funeral service will be this Saturday, 25 Jan at Walter Sisulu Memorial in Randburg and she’ll be buried at Westpark Cemetery
