Smoke and Sunset by Thompson Emate

Poem

It’s daylight in a different place,
It was foretold that humans would be a doomed race,
The writings they ignored said they’ll become shadows of their existence,
The earth has been wearied by their negligence.

Dark skies obstruct the sunlight,
Despondency accompanies the night,
The earth has taken too much from us,
She’s feeble and wounded.

Our insatiable desire to push beyond the boundaries of technology has shrivelled nature’s meadows,
We journey in the looming shadows,
Breathing in filth and pollutants,
In an ambience of mess and nonsense.

Gloom pervades the air,
It’s a turbulent stir,
Who will rescue us from the envelope of darkness?
The universe weeps.
