Summer’s End Chenè Du plessis

Poem

End of Summer
Summer slips quietly round the bend,
Its golden days too swift to defend.
Bathing suits drip in the amber light,
While I sit weeping in the hush of night.

You’re leaving soon
before the moon can wax again in fullest bloom.
The leaves will fall like silent tears
As you step into a world of new frontiers.

A dorm room waits, a chapter turned,
While my heart stays, quietly burned.
I’ll hope you call, just once, or more
As August fades and turns October’s door.

A year since first our paths entwined,
Now time, relentless, leaves us behind.
Autumn races, winter steals
Through cracks beneath the door it feels.

I dream of fireworks in your eyes,
Of New Year’s under star-stitched skies.
As Auld Lang Syne begins its song,
I’ll wonder where the year’s gone wrong.

Like echoes lost in seasons spent,
I trace the time, where it all went
