Sustenance by Lee Evans

Poem

You have nothing to blame but circumstance
for taking this path into the woods
and over a twilight bridge that spans
the abyss between the flesh and the blood.

And what did you see when you lingered there,
not knowing how things would soon turn out
when you stepped off the planks and breathed the air,
and the ravens croaked at your faith and doubt?
