Feat: Msaki, Leshie Lovesong (Botswana), Alessandro Lutman (Italy), Modise Sekgothe, Hakeen Anderson-Lesolang, Mutinta Bbenkele (Zambia), Kwazi Ndlangisa, Emmah Mabye, Mthunzikazi Mbungwana.

Themed ‘When Words Collide’, the 7th edition of the Word N Sound International Youth Poetry Festival will showcase a world class selection of youth voices at the legendary Market Theatre Laboratory in Newtown from the 4th to the 8th of October 2017 supported by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Pretoria.

In their own words diverse youth voices will tackle pertinent and controversial topics including identity, sexuality, materialism, personal power and neo-liberal politics while claiming their space in a world that tries everything to marginalize them.

“Give young people a platform and a microphone and words become weapons. When words collide, silence is no longer golden” explains Afurakan Thabiso Mohare, festival curator and CEO of the Word N Sound Live Literature Company.

The 4 day program for the 7th edition of this ground breaking festival will include an open mic event, workshops, digital collaborations, WNS Poetry League finale and showcase performances.

International poets that will headline the festival include Leshie Lovesong (Botswana), Mutinta Bbenkele (Zambia) and Alessandro Lutman from Italy whose trip is made possible by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Pretoria. A brilliant selection of local voices such as Modise Sekgothe, Mandisa Vundla, Mutle Mothibe, Mthunzikazi Mbungwana, Emmah Mabye, KB Kilobyte, Xabiso Vili, Flex Boogie, Richard Quaz Roodt will complete the lineup. Special musical showcases from Msaki and Lerato Lichaba who will add their flair to this fully loaded festival.
