This Road Promised Everything by Manasa Kaliki

Poem

Suddenly, I got a call,
On the line, my dad and my mom.
They were coming for me;
I was in the hostel,
Waiting for them.
Not only them,
But also my favorite,
My lovely dog Orion.
He’s my favorite thing.
I called them again,
“Where are you?”
They said,
“We’re still on the road.
We’ll enjoy a lot on this trip.”
I didn’t attend the classes,
I didn’t have breakfast,
The thought of the future alone
enough to make me full.
But by evening, they still hadn’t come.
They didn’t answer my calls.
Why? What happened? Why?
Suddenly, I got a call
From an unknown number.
Telling me callously and shortly,
An accident had happened
Their road had promised me everything
Led me to silence,
And delivered me to nothingness.
