two poems by JD DeHart

Dramatic

Swish goes a cloak
and on goes the makeup

Stage lights find waiting
wanting acting faces

Those seated close can see
gestures, expressions, cracks
in the facade

From far away, upper mezzanine
all the action looks seamless
no problems with lines.

As On

We will proceed
in the path we planned,
Never mind the shaking
sand, shifty looks,
One hundred percent
becomes fifty, but let’s
keep moving, as on a track,
as on a mission,
Rising steps to the stars.
