Poem

The winds tug at my heart,

Shriek around my shivering leaves.

I am fated to stand,

Unmoving, calm,

While storms claw away
At my silence.
Raindrops carve paths down my broken skin,

Ants scurry under my ancient roots,

Birds scatter ,
splintering the morning calm.
The stars cross their endless skies.

I remain,
transfixed in my captive earth,
Arms stretched out
To a sky I will never touch
Dreaming of a different dawn,
A new unfettered destiny.
