Vir Sinéad – ‘n skoenlapperaar by Alikzandre Marais

Poem

Die fllinkflous retoriek,
verdoemd verduisel
deur die magiese interteks,
span streks sy kloue
om jou melodieuse nek.

Jy was tog seker meer
as net die seer
wat ingekloof in jou are
die gebaar van die barbariese
dra
jy steeds daardie
seer om jou keel
of is dit te swaar
vir die hiernamaals?

Ek wens ek kon
vir jou sing van ‘n ander Rome,
langs jou sit en
vertel van die patrone
wat ons soms, as ons
net
minder van ons meerheid dra,
kan sien instroom
deur ons geteisterde are
verheilig
‘n skoenlapperskynende
vlerk wat ons
dra
en neerle
in hierna

English Translation

The fleet-footed-fooling rhetoric,
damnably deceptive
through the spectral intertext,
spitefully stretches his claws
around your melodic neck.

You were surely more
than just the pain
that axed into your veins,
the sign of savage
sustained
do you carry still
pain around your throat
or was it too heavy
for the hereafter?

I wish I could
sing you a song of another Latin,
sit next to you and
tell you about the pattern
that we, sometimes, if we
just
carry less of our more,
could see gushing
through our tormented veins
sanctified
a butterflybeaming
wing bearing us
into
after
